TEAM ARKEN ZOO WON BRONZE IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AND WON THE WORLD AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Then we've finished the race for this time!

Today was the last day of the World Championships and the medals were to be awarded – we were fourth, but had a chance at the top three finishes.

We made a good start, and went right on the first cross and rounded like the second boat at the cross mark. There was a bit of wind, about 3-4 m/s and the boat went really well. The first county went well and we had taken a number of boat lengths on leading Lenco. We then cruised away from them and rounded first, completely alone, at the cross mark. Second was then Lenco and third was the Italians who had sailed up from 20th to 3rd place on the crosses – they took their own way and made a lot of money from it.

The county down was exciting and we walked past Lenco – and the Italians sailed past both of us and came first in the finish and we came in as second – 2.5 minutes before third. At the estimated time, it was enough for a 4th place, which meant that we advanced up to 3rd place in total.

Then we all lay waiting for the second start, but the wind died out and it was not a second start. This meant that the Italians became world champions – congratulations! Lenco was second and we became bronze medalists – extremely nice!

As both Italians and Lenco are professional sailors, the result meant that we became world champion for amateurs – a prestigious dent called corinthian division! How much fun!

We aimed high with this effort and are very pleased with the outcome.
