European Championship Corinthian gold in the C-class!

We have summed up the European Championships in sea racing in Search Magazine as below.

European Championship gold for Team Pro4u

Over the weekend, the European Championships ended in sea race in Oxelösund after a short week of sailing and a total of seven races. In total at the European Championships in Sweden, there were 70 boats that participated in three classes A, B and C. We competed in Class C with the most boats, 37 of them. Generally, it has been very good conditions for sailing with vehicles for strong winds and mostly good weather.

For us it was finally a Class C gold in corinthian (amateur) class among 24 boats and a fourth place in the open class. We were close, just 3.5 points from the bronze and 7.5 points from victory overall so it was very tight among the top six boats, only 10 points separated.

"Unfortunately, we started the championship a little too badly the first two days to reach the medal in the open class, but our finish during Friday and Saturday was really good and almost came forward. In fact, we had the lowest score of all six top boats during the four final days," says Joakim Hoppe before deck.

In total during the European Championships we got 24.5 points in the seven races (a course race away) with the series: (10), 7.5, 6, 3, 3, 1 and 4. We also managed as one of the few boats in the European Championship also win one of the races and getting a nail in a European Championship or World Cup is always difficult but fun.

–Too bad the European Championship did not continue for a few more days when our form curve has been rising and we have generally sailed better and better day by day, it certainly has to do with the fact that we are half a new team this season compared to last year and that it took a while to get together al together. Given this, we still feel satisfied that we have placed ourselves so well and were very close to the absolute lead in the very tough competition and large fleet we have in Class C," says Anders Mårtensson, tactics.

We congratulate the three Estonian boats that took the medals in the open class, J-112E Matilda 4 gold, Arcona 340 Katarina 2 silver and OneOff Postimee's bronze.

The team that has sailed the European Championships are Patrik Forsgren, Anders Mårtensson, Joakim Hoppe, Oskar Hellblom, Anders Björk, Sven Eriksson, Johanna Sommarlund and Axel Antas-Bergkvist.

"We would also like to thank the organizers of the World Cup sailing championships in Oxelösund: the tracks, information and results reporting and more have worked very well, they have had talented sailing leaders and the competitions have been able to run fairly," says Sven Eriksson, trim.

To sum up, we had the goal before the European Championships to defend our gold in the Corinthian class and to win a medal in the open class. We managed to defend our Corinthian gold and now win gold for the 8th year in a row since 2012 at the European Championships and World Championships! However, we did not quite reach a medal in the open class but we came very close. In conclusion, given the conditions with half the crew new or in new position this season, we still feel at ease with the result of winning Corinthian gold clearly and coming 4th in the open class just 7.5 points from victory, we think we promise good for Future.

"We have had two very good weeks together in the team first during the Swedish Championships and then now during the European Championships. We have learned a lot and it feels great that the shape curve has gone steadily upwards. We are satisfied with the results from the competitions but most importantly for me is how we have completed the races with everything around and that we have had fun together as a team and learned more things and all this I feel happy with. ideas on things to improve for next season," says Patrik Forsgren, skipper and rorsman.

In total during the European Championships, Team Pro4u became the best Swedish boat with our 4th place among 37 Class C boats, in the other classes the X-41 Kwanza came in 8th place among the 25 class B and XP-44 Aida boats came in 5th place among the 8 boats in Class A.
