DAY 3 at the World Cup – a good day! Report from Team Arken Zoo.

Today there were two bank entrances at the World Championships in ORCi in Helsinki. The wind ranged between 5 and 12 m/s with a lot of twist involved as well. It was a bit tighter starts today and in our class there were first two general recalls and then a start where we got away well. We cruised well and led on time at the first round – but the wind had turned too much according to the sailing line and they interrupted the sailing – CURTAIN! Image

We tagged and made a good start again and got away in a free track. Made a good cross with secure tactical choices and was second in the water after the Italians ( World Champions from the second year) and in the end we finished second, 34 seconds behind the Italians – we are very happy with that.

In today's second sailing we made a real dream start with our own track and we had full speed out of the "starting blocks"! We made a good cross, but got trouble at the elevator of the spinnaker and probably dropped 100 meters there. Then sailed steadily down to the county rounding and again made a good cross and rounded at the same time with another boat. Our spinnaker walk down to the goal was good and we hit the boat that rounded at the same time by 3 seconds at the estimated time. We again got second place and now have the series 3 -1-1-2-2, a total of 9 points on 5 sailings.

We now take these with us when during the remaining sailings during the World Championships there will be sailing in the Gold Fleet for us, along with 38 other boats. there are a total of 4 sailings left – 3 track races and a sea choir and now it will be decided what the result list should look like.

There is a boat from the second qualifying group that has lower overall points than us – otherwise everyone has higher points. There will be even tougher competition in the last four sailings as it will now only be the 39 best boats so far that sail towards each other and we are very much looking forward to the last four sailings – we are loaded!  / Lasse Bergkvist Team Arken Zoo
