Team Pro4u medalists at world championships in sea race

July 26, 2018

Team Pro4u, with skipper Patrik Forsgren, a First 36.7 gold in the amateur class (Corinthian) and a bronze in the open class of Offshore Sailing Worlds (World Cup of Sea Racing) Class C that went in The Hague Holland last week and ended this weekend.

The competition included two offshore races totalling 135 distances (sailed with a start and finish) and seven cross/county track race races each round two distances, i.e. a total of nine races. In total, barely 100 boats participated and over 800 sailors from 15 nations competed at the World Championships and Team Pro4u competed in the largest class C with 49 boats. Team Pro4u scored a total of 73.5 points with the series (after a one count): 6, 2, 13, 3, 7.5, 1, 17, 24 and (38.5). We managed to take two nails in the World Cup, and the long sea race, which was counted twice and hence gave two points, as well as a course race.

Team Pro4u won the amateur class in the World Cup (called Corinthian) and finished third in the open class.

* I am pleased that we won a medal at the World Cup in the open class and that we won the amateur class and these were our two goals before the World Championships. However, this time we were really close to winning gold overall in the open class after being in the lead most of the competition but the mistakes we made, especially when we got stuck on a cross buoy several minutes in streamed water with light winds, the penultimate day was dire and at this level of fierce competition from many talented boats / teams with great resources cost those mistakes too much and really it was more or less decided for the last day even if we tried everything we could then and tried to go for the gold instead, says skipper and rorsman Patrik Forsgren.

Sailings in Holland have had fine and sunny weather in changing winds with light to medium wind in the upper register. The sailing line has laid good and fair tracks with a really long offshore race and good inshore tracks that have been quite long. It has quickly corrected in the case of wind and power shifts and added new brands to do the races fair and we think it has been a very well-implemented event even in general.

* Initially we were quite disappointed that we as amateurs won the gold in the open class of the World Cup that we dreamed of but when you reflect and get a bit distance to it all, it is all the way good that we as amateurs take a medal at the World Championships again and win the amateur class again and take home completely two medals, no other team in the World Championships won two medals during the World Championships. Then one can reflect that this is now the seventh year in a row since 2012 that we are partly on the podium in the World Cup or European Championship and win amateur gold in the World Cup or European Championships and it shows a long-term, perseverance and strength to be able to "top the form" once international master's kap," says Anders Mårtensson trim.

Won the Open Class C World Cup, a Dutch team in the French Side J-112E J LANCE 12 and two came German Italia 9.98 IMMAC FRAM.

* We think the ambition for the future of one of the rules tested in this championship where they weighed together both orc and the IRC rules that are the two dominant ones are both interesting and positive and it is good that more boats can compete against each other," says Johan Tuvstedt trim.

Team Pro4u's crane mail crew is currently sailing the boat home from Holland and our next big goal next season will be the European Championships to be held in Oxelösund in August 2019.

* Overall during this championship, we have learned a lot, for example, to sail in streamed water and we have also sailed faster in waves both on the cross and county compared to what we have ever done so we have developed and improved. Furthermore, we also have a whole long list of things that we can improve on the boat to get faster. Our project is very much about constant development and improvement and we have achieved that and it feels inspiring that we have things that can make us even better in the future and we look with confidence towards the future and at some point maybe that World Cup gold falls in. if you have the tour with you an entire championship and closer than what we were this year, we have not been," concludes Patrik Forsgren.
